I’ve been without insurance for almost a year now. I canceled my old policy because I do not drive my car anymore and I’m selling it. So I finally bought a new car, and I am currently looking for insurance. But I haven’t had any insurance the past year. Where can I get insurance?
If you do not have to many points on your license, or another situation that would prevent you from acquiring insurance, than you should have no trouble. People who have not driven for years, for whatever reason can still buy insurance, as long as their license is in effect. (VALID). You can go on line to Geico, or one of the other mega insurance services. But I would recommend checking with your friends, family, co workers, for a referral to their insurance agent. Preferably a local insurance broker. They have more companies to write for, thus giving you a better choice, and better rates.

How can you negotiate with car insurance agency after a wreck that was caused by you if you have no insurance to cover the other driver? Are there any legal ramifications?
If you caused an accident and had no insurance – the other driver will be able to file an uninsured motorist claim. Their insurance company will pay for all the things yours would have (if you have insurance).
Then the other driver’s insurance company will turn the matter over to their subrogation department. The Subrogation department will contact you about paying them back. Do not ignore them – they can have your drivers license suspended, sue you or turn you over to collections.
However, the subrogation department will be willing to set up an interest free payment plan for you to repay them for all they paid their driver. Most likely they will want at least $100 per month – until the debt is paid in full. If you miss payments – they suspend your license, sue you or turn you over to collections.
The other thing you can do – is see if the subro dept will accept a lesser lump sum. For example: you owe them $10,000 – they may be willing to take 7,000 if you pay it as a lump sum. They would rather get a little less all at once – than collect the full $10,000 – 100 dollars at a time.
Can you dispute the amount they want? No – not really. They paid it – you owe it.

I know that the less I use my car, the less the car company will cost me. But how can they know how often I use my car?
If I buy car insurance claiming that I always use public transportation to work, will they believe it?
They will believe you until you get into a serious accident (not just a fender bender) That’s when they check everything. And if they think you’ve been fibbing, they may not pay for anything.

Insurance companys give cars a rating number to determine if one type of car pays more insurance then the other. Where can I find out what the number of my car would be?
no company is gonna give that to you…then youll know how they rate you…i work for an insurance company and we are STRICTLY prohibited form revealing your cars rating system…i can tell you this…think about logically…a new 2007 BENZ is going to be more expansive than a 1982 Civic (logic)…an SUV/truck can cause more damage than a reg 4 door sedan/coupe (2 vehicles are traveling at 50 mph, one weighs 5 tons, the other weighs 12 tons, they both hit the same car/object. which one wll cause more damage?…you do the math…) so they are more not less expensive to insure…its MOSTLY based on your driving history (tickets and accidents), annual miles driven (liability exposure, more driving=more chances for an accident) driving experience and the vehicle you drive…hope this helps
A site I’ve recommended in the past would be…

Hope that helps.

I am renting a car for one month from Hertz. Their insurance is very expensive (at $25 per day, it adds $900 to my costs). I have already asked my credit card company if they offer auto insurance for a rental car. Do you have any suggestions on other options for inusuring a rental car for one month?
I do not own a car, so I do not have any personal auto insurance. This rental will be in the United States.
With the rental company you have two options, take it or refuse it.
Talk to your insurance agent about a rider which would cover any at fault accident you would have with a rental car for a month. They may have suggestions.

I have been told that my car insurance is high because of a bad credit rating. I am currently enrolled in a DMP to pay down some credit cards and I’m sure this is why it is so bad. Will any insurance company work with me to lower my rate? I currently have GEICO insurance bc it was the lowest I could find. I lease my car and always make my car and insurance payments on time.
Isn’t it a joke that insurance companies can base your rate on your credit history!! Like, someone with bad credit just has to be a bad driver! This is an issue that needs to be addressed…just doesn’t make sense to me where the relation is…anyway, in the meantime…raise your deductable up to $500 or higher, but stash enough extra $ to cover it if you have the need to file…hang in there…in the meantime, hope you have cut up those cards!

I heard that car insurance is pretty expensive for older muscle cars, and I’d like to know around how much a month car insurance would be for a 1968 ford mustang?
I depends on what you plan to do with they car. If it’s a daily driver you’ll be stuck with liability, which is cheap. If you want classic car insurance you insure to the cars value and they limit your driving.
